Summer Meeting of the Midwest Spillman Users Group - Friday
August 21, 2009
VIA
was pleased to host the 2009 Summer Meeting of the Midwest
Spillman Users Group. The meeting was held at the Skyline
Club in downtown Indianapolis. This year, the meeting format
was changed to accommodate multiple guest speakers as well
as Spillman product demonstrations. Breakfast and lunch
were provided by VIA. There was an excellent turnout with
over 35 guests representing over twenty agencies from Indiana
and Ohio. Two lucky individuals even won tickets to Sunday’s
Indian’s game.
The
guest speakers included:
Indiana
Public Access Councilor Heather Willis Neal provided a detailed
review of what records are considered public and what records
are considered discretionary. (Friday was Neal’s last
day as Public
Access Councilor, a new PAC will be appointed in the
following weeks.)
A copy of her presentation is available here
as a PDF file.
Indiana
Telecommunications Association, (ITA)
President John Koppin spoke about the legislative challenges
facing 911 funding.
A copy of his presentation is available here
as a PDF file.
Vivian
Nowaczewski, State System Coordinator for IDACS,
Indiana State Police provided an overview of OpenFox Messenger,
the replacement for Omnixx.
A copy of her presentation is available
here as a PDF file.
Spillman
Technologies provided an overview of their new Pin Mapping
product and took part a lengthy Q & A session. Users
had the opportunity to ask questions about their software
and to get on the spot answers. Everyone was able to extend
their knowledge of their systems.

here as a PDF file.
With
the amount of positive feed back we’ve received, our
next meeting, scheduled for November 13th, will follow the
same format. That meeting will focus on data sharing and
network interoperability. We look forward to hearing speakers
from the Indiana Intelligence Fusion Center in addition
to exploring the capabilities of Spillman Technologies’
“Insight” software.

Seymour
Indiana - New Law Enforcement Center
The new Seymour
Police Department Law Enforcement Center is almost complete.
The Seymour Police will be taking possession of the building
this April, and will be moving into their new address
on April 30, 2007.
While
VIA can't take credit for building this amazing structure,
we will be leaving our own prints behind. The department
will feature all new networking, utilizing QOS and Gigabit
connections. Seymour Police will also be enjoying
the benefits of the new Cisco(tm) ASA 5510 Security Appliance.
A
new building and a new network - does it get any better
than this?

Clinton County
Gets Connected
When
the Frankfort
Police Department and the Clinton
County Sheriff's Department agreed on combining resources
and merging computer systems, VIA was there to help.
Frankfort Police Department, a VIA customer since 1990,
was a driving force in data consolidation. The efforts
of Sheriff Mark Mitchell and Police Chief James Skinner
resulted in a joined computer system that utilizes over
sixty thousand name records for law enforcement and investigation.
The
Spillman Records Management System provides computer-aided
dispatching, extensive searching and reporting capabilities
and a record linking system that shows all of the relationships
that a particular record has with other records in the system.
By expanding the Frankfort PD system to the Clinton County
Sheriff’s Department, the system becomes a single,
comprehensive, regional criminal database, thereby enhancing
value.
